Every Tuesday here at Mahogany HQ, we spend a couple of hours listening to as many music submissions we’ve received over the past week as possible. It’s one of the highlights of our week and been responsible for unearthing a couple of gems already and this morning’s session has led to the discovery of yet another incredibly exciting new artist, Sydney Franklin.
Hailing from Potomac, Maryland, Sydney Franklin is a soul singer who last week shared her impressive debut EP, Make It Hurt.
A four-track effort that fuses elements of jazz, soul and R&B, Make It Hurt blends together heartfelt lyrics and anthemic choruses to perfectly showcase Sydney’s blindingly obvious talent. An early favourite from the record is the sultry Forever, a collaboration with rising star Mac Ayres, who just happens to be a friend and former classmate of Sydney’s. But our standout has to be the title track, which finds Sydney’s vocals dripping with raw emotion as she comes to terms with having her heart broken.
Take a listen to Make It Hurt in full below and keep your eyes peeled for more from Sydney Franklin in the future.
